Development has been ongoing for a couple of years now on a replacement for the current version of Peakfind, which was developed in SPP. We have a C package to replace it which has not been fully tested and approved yet, but will be soon. It is also much better documented than the original Peakfind. Since it is functionally almost identical to Peakfind, it can also provide enlightenment on how Peakfind I works. Here are some useful links:
- Control flow diagram: Gives an overview of what routines Peakfind II calls, and what each of them do.
- Variable schematic: Describes major variables and structures graphically.
- Developer's Guide: The original development guide. This is a very good overview of Peakfind, but does not provide as much "nitty-gritty" detail as the two documents above. Some parts concerning IRAF calls and filenames have been rendered obsolete.
- Uncertainties and calculation of derivatives: A step-by-step explanation of how parameter uncertainties are calculated. 9 pages of scanned-in handwritten text and equations.
